Leia and her husband John classically homeschooled their three children in Orlando, FL for 18 years. The decision to homeschool was made because they could teach at a higher level. The goal was that through a rigorous academic program their children would grow in their relationship with Christ and have the skills necessary to gain admittance to their school of choice as well as be employable when they graduated college. Additionally, they wanted their children to be able to look adults in the eye, and speak to anyone anywhere at anytime on any topic. This included job interviews as well as admissions counselors and scholarship committees so they could get into their dream school. To reach this goal, the Horton family was highly involved in speech and debate with the National Christian Forensic Communication Association (NCFCA) as Leia wanted her children to be effective communicators and defenders of the faith in an ever growing hostile world.

The vast amount of information needed to understand how to prepare for college can be overwhelming. Having a heart to take the stress out of the college prep process, Leia made it her goal to help families navigate this emotionally challenging journey. She started speaking at homeschool conferences and is the founder of Horton Test Prep. She is both a Test Prep Professional and Scholarship Expert. For the past eight years, Leia has helped homeschool families earn full tuition and merit based scholarships through high ACT and SAT scores.
